Dictionary & Thesaurus

Definitions, pronunciations, synonyms and antonyms — all in one search.

How this works: Lookups go through MultiSwitch’s dictionary proxy (and fall back to the public dictionary API if the proxy is down). Definitions, phonetics and audio come from that entry; synonyms and antonyms are requested separately and shown as chips. A 404 means the word is not in the dictionary, not a math error.

How this works

Definitions, phonetic spelling, and audio pronunciation come from MultiSwitch's dictionary proxy, with a public dictionary API as a fallback if the proxy is temporarily down. Synonyms and antonyms are requested separately from a thesaurus source and shown as clickable chips underneath.

This covers single English words and common phrases — it's a dictionary and thesaurus lookup, not a full encyclopedia or a translation tool. If a search returns nothing, that specific word isn't in the underlying dictionary source rather than a fault in the page.

Click any synonym or antonym chip to look that word up in turn, which makes it easy to work your way toward the exact word you're after — handy for writing, crosswords, or just settling an argument about what a word actually means.

FAQ

Why does a word sometimes return no results?

A 404 means that specific word or phrase isn't in the underlying dictionary source — it's not a calculation error. Try a simpler form of the word (singular instead of plural, or the base verb instead of a conjugated form).

Where do the definitions and audio come from?

From MultiSwitch's dictionary proxy first, falling back automatically to a public dictionary API if the proxy is unavailable. Synonyms and antonyms come from a separate thesaurus lookup.

Can I look up phrases, not just single words?

Yes, common phrases are supported alongside single words, though coverage is naturally strongest for standard dictionary entries.

Does clicking a synonym search that word too?

Yes — every synonym and antonym is a clickable chip that runs a fresh lookup for that word, so you can hop from word to word until you find the right one.
