Names are drawn from a built-in list tagged by gender, cultural origin, and general popularity — not pulled from a live census or registry feed — so filtering by 'Girl' and 'Japanese', for example, narrows the pool to names tagged with both before a random sample is shown.
Choosing 'All' for gender or origin simply combines every tagged bucket into one larger pool rather than applying any special logic, and each generated name comes with its stored meaning where one is recorded.
Re-rolling draws a fresh random sample from that same filtered pool — it reshuffles which names you see, it doesn't invent new names or expand the underlying list, so very narrow filter combinations will eventually repeat names you've already seen.
From a built-in list tagged by gender, cultural origin, and popularity, each with a stored meaning where one is recorded — not a live government or census database.
The generator combines every tagged name across all genders and origins into one pool, then draws a random sample from that combined pool.
Re-rolling reshuffles the sample drawn from your current filtered pool — it can't show a name outside that pool. With very narrow filters (a specific gender and origin), you may eventually see repeats.
The tool doesn't check name registries or legal naming rules in any country — always confirm a name is acceptable for a birth certificate in your own jurisdiction before deciding.
