Privacy Policy

How we collect, use and protect your information

Privacy Policy

Effective: 27 October 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how MultiSwitch (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, stores and discloses personal information when you use multiswitch.app and related tools (the “Service”).

We operate from New Zealand. The Privacy Act 2020 (New Zealand) is the primary law that governs how we handle personal information. We also honour the privacy rights that apply to you where you live, including the EU/UK GDPR, the Australian Privacy Act 1988, the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by CPRA), and Canada’s PIPEDA, to the extent those laws apply.

1. Who we are

MultiSwitch is a web app of converters, calculators and tools. We do not require you to create an account. The operator of the Service is based in New Zealand.

Privacy contact: hello@multiswitch.app

If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you can also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner in New Zealand. If you live elsewhere, you may also contact your local data-protection or privacy authority.

2. Personal information we collect

We collect as little personal information as we reasonably need to run the Service (Privacy Act information privacy principles 1–4).

We do not collect: names, payment card details, or account logins. Tools run in your browser. Calculation inputs and results stay on your device unless a feature has to call an external service (for example a dictionary lookup or a live exchange rate).

Information that may be collected automatically:

  • Technical data such as IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, language, referring URL, pages viewed and approximate timestamps (via our hosting provider and, where used, analytics)
  • Cookie and similar identifiers, described in our Cookies Policy

Information you choose to give us: emails to hello@multiswitch.app, and anything you send through the feedback form.

On-device storage: preferences (for example language) and tool history may be stored in your browser’s local storage. That data does not leave your device unless you clear it or a feature you use sends a request to a third party.

3. Why we use it

  • To provide, secure and improve the Service
  • To answer support and privacy requests
  • To understand aggregate use of the site (analytics)
  • To display advertising (Google AdSense)
  • To look up dictionary, thesaurus and currency data when you use those tools
  • To meet legal obligations

We do not use personal information for a purpose that is unrelated to these, unless you agree or the law allows it.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies as described in our Cookies Policy. In short: essential storage is used so the site works; Google may set analytics and advertising cookies.

5. Advertising

We display ads through Google AdSense. Google may use cookies and similar technologies to show ads, measure performance and, where allowed, personalise ads. You can manage ad personalisation at Google Ads Settings. Google’s policy is at policies.google.com/privacy.

6. Third parties and overseas disclosure

We use other organisations to help run the Service. They only get what they need to do that job. Some of them store or process information outside New Zealand (Privacy Act IPP 12), including in the United States and other countries where privacy laws may differ.

  • Cloudflare — hosting, content delivery, security and logs
  • Google — AdSense advertising and, where enabled, Analytics
  • Exchange-rate and market data providers (including exchangerate-api.com and CoinGecko) — live rates when you use currency tools
  • Dictionary and thesaurus providers (including dictionaryapi.dev and Datamuse) — word lookups you request, proxied through our servers

Each of those organisations has its own privacy policy. We do not sell your personal information for money.

7. How long we keep it

  • Support emails: as long as needed to deal with your request, then a reasonable archive period
  • Server and security logs: typically up to 90 days, unless we need them longer for security or legal reasons
  • Google Analytics: according to Google’s retention settings (commonly up to 26 months)
  • On-device storage: until you clear it

8. Security

We use HTTPS, access controls and hosting security appropriate to a small public website. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure.

9. Your rights

New Zealand (Privacy Act 2020): you can ask us for access to personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it. We will respond as the Act requires, usually within 20 working days.

If you are in the EEA or UK: you may also have rights to access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, portability, and to withdraw consent. You may lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority (for example the ICO in the UK).

If you are in Australia: you can request access and correction under the Australian Privacy Principles, and complain to the OAIC.

If you are in California: you may request to know, delete, and correct personal information, and to opt out of “sale” or “sharing” for cross-context behavioural advertising. We do not sell personal information for money. Personalised ads from Google may count as “sharing” under CPRA. Use Google Ads Settings and/or email us to opt out. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

If you are in Canada: you may request access and correction under PIPEDA.

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@multiswitch.app. We may need to verify your request. We will not charge a fee unless the law allows it (for example a manifestly unfounded or excessive request).

10. Children

The Service is a general audience tool set. It is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have, email us and we will delete it.

11. Changes

We will post any update on this page and change the effective date. If a change is material, we will make that obvious on the site where we reasonably can.
