Countdown Timer

To a date and time, or a plain duration

Type a target date and time, or a duration, and watch it count down. Uses your device's local time and timezone.

How this works: "To a date/time" counts down to a moment you pick, shown in days, hours, minutes and seconds. "For a duration" is a plain kitchen-timer style countdown from minutes and seconds you type. Both run in this browser tab; a sound plays and the display flashes when it reaches zero.

05:00
Runs in this browser tab only. Closing or reloading the tab stops the countdown. See Terms.

How this works

Two modes cover the two common ways people want a countdown. 'To a date/time' counts down to a specific moment you pick on the calendar, showing the remaining time broken into days, hours, minutes, and seconds — useful for counting down to an event, deadline, or anniversary.

'For a duration' works like a simple kitchen timer — you type in minutes and seconds, and it counts straight down from that duration to zero, which is the more useful mode for something like a cooking timer or a timed work interval.

Both modes run entirely within this browser tab, and when the countdown reaches zero, a sound plays and the display flashes to get your attention — useful even if you've switched away to another task while waiting.

FAQ

What's the difference between the two countdown modes?

'To a date/time' counts down to a specific calendar moment you choose (like a deadline or event). 'For a duration' counts down from a plain length of time you type in, like a kitchen timer counting down from 10 minutes.

Will the timer keep running if I switch to a different browser tab?

Yes, as long as the tab stays open in your browser, the countdown continues running in the background.

What happens when the countdown reaches zero?

A sound plays and the display flashes, so you're alerted even if you're not actively looking at the page at that exact moment.

Can I use this for a recurring countdown, like every day at the same time?

Not automatically — each countdown is a one-time setup. For a recurring alert, you'd need to reset the timer each time.
