Enter a step count to see the distance, or switch to distance to see how many steps it takes. Stride length is estimated from your height, or measure your own for the best accuracy: walk 10 steps, measure the distance, and divide by 10.

Distance = steps × stride length. Without a measured stride, walking stride is estimated as height × 0.415 for men and × 0.413 for women, the long-standing rule of thumb used by pedometer makers. At 170 cm that’s about 70 cm a step, so 10,000 steps ≈ 7.0 km (4.4 miles). Running strides are much longer, estimated here at height × 0.65.
Calories use a simple energy-per-distance estimate: walking burns roughly 0.5 kcal per kg of body weight per km, and running about 1 kcal per kg per km, because running lifts the body more with each stride. A 70 kg person walking 7 km burns about 245 kcal.
Time assumes an average walking cadence of about 100 steps a minute (roughly 5 km/h) or a running cadence of 160 steps a minute.
For most adults, about 7–8 km (4.5–5 miles) of walking. At 170 cm tall it’s about 7 km; at 185 cm, about 7.7 km.
Around 2,000–2,400 walking steps for most people, and about 1,200–1,600 running steps. At 170 cm tall, a mile is about 2,300 walking steps.
Roughly 1,300–1,500 walking steps for most adults. At 170 cm tall with a 70 cm stride it’s about 1,420.
Mark a starting line, walk 10 normal steps, then measure the distance from the start to the same spot on your foot and divide by 10. Do it a few times and average them. Enter it in “your measured stride” and it overrides the height estimate.
Roughly 250–500 kcal for most adults, depending mainly on body weight and pace. A 70 kg person walking 10,000 steps (about 7 km) burns around 250 kcal.
